Your Electrician in Baltimore County, MD

Baltimore County Is Our Home County

JJ Palmer Electrical Service is based in Catonsville, so Baltimore County is home for us. Our owner, John Palmer, is a Maryland Statewide Master Electrician (License #12441) and has been in the trade since 1978. When you call, you talk with the electrician who will plan and do your job, not a call center.

We do residential and commercial electrical work across the county, from older homes on the west side to offices and shops along the main commercial corridors. Every estimate is free, and free estimates are scheduled within one to three days.

Older Homes, Newer Demands

A lot of Baltimore County’s housing went up decades ago, from brick colonials and ranchers to rowhouses and townhomes. Many of those homes were wired long before EV chargers, heat pumps, central air and today’s kitchen appliances. Adding any of those often starts with a look at the panel and service.

A few things that are good to know in Baltimore County:

  • The county requires an electrical permit for nearly all electrical work, including extending circuits and connecting replacement equipment. We handle the permit and schedule the inspection.
  • The county doesn’t make you upgrade an older service. Mortgage lenders, though, may require at least 100-amp, 240-volt service with circuit breakers. That often comes up when people buy or sell an older home.
  • When a new service needs BGE involved, we coordinate with them so the outage window stays as short as possible.

Baltimore County Electrical FAQ

Do I need a permit for electrical work in Baltimore County?

For nearly all of it, yes. Baltimore County requires an electrical permit for new circuits, panel work and equipment connections. We pull the permit and schedule the county inspection.

My house still has a 100-amp panel. Can I add an EV charger?

Sometimes. It depends on what your home already uses. We do a load check first, then tell you whether the charger fits on your current service or whether a panel upgrade makes more sense.

Do you work in Baltimore City too?

Yes. Along with Baltimore County, we work in Baltimore City and Howard County. Call (443) 986-1000 to check your address.

Do you do commercial work in Baltimore County?

Yes. We work on offices, shops and other commercial spaces, including lighting upgrades, new circuits and tenant fit-outs.
