Electrical Services in Catonsville

Here’s the work Catonsville homeowners and businesses ask us for most:

  • EV charger installation: This is our specialty. We check whether your panel can handle a Level 2 charger, run the circuit, and put the charger where it makes sense for your driveway or garage. See our EV charger installation page.
  • Service panel upgrades: Many Catonsville homes still run on the panel they were built with. We replace and upgrade panels and coordinate any service work with BGE. More on our panel upgrades page.
  • Generator installation: We install standby and portable generator hookups so your house keeps running when the power goes out.
  • Lighting, ceiling fans, landscape lighting and security cameras
  • Troubleshooting and repairs: dead outlets, breakers that keep tripping, flickering lights and other problems.

Those are just the most common jobs. If it’s electrical, ask us.

Why Older Catonsville Homes Often Need Electrical Updates

A big part of Catonsville’s housing is older. The Old Catonsville Historic District, between Frederick Road and Edmondson Avenue, has hundreds of Queen Anne houses, foursquares, bungalows and Colonial Revivals. Its National Register nomination gives a period of significance of 1866 to 1950. Westview Park, about 1,800 homes, was built in stages from 1955 to 1967. Woodbridge Valley went up in the 1970s.

Houses from those eras weren’t wired for EV chargers, heat pumps, central air or a kitchen full of appliances. Upgrading the service is often the first step. A couple of things that are good to know in Baltimore County:

  • Baltimore County requires an electrical permit for nearly all electrical work, including extending circuits and connecting replacement equipment. Only a licensed electrical contractor registered with the county can apply. We handle the permit and the inspection.
  • The county doesn’t make you upgrade an older service. Mortgage lenders, though, may require at least 100-amp, 240-volt service with circuit breakers. That comes up a lot when people buy or sell older Catonsville homes.
  • When a new service needs BGE involved, the county has a “work with BGE” process. We coordinate it so the outage window stays short.

Catonsville Electrical FAQ

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger in Catonsville?
Yes. Baltimore County requires an electrical permit for new circuits and equipment connections. We pull it and schedule the county inspection.

My older Catonsville house has a 100-amp panel. Can I still add an EV charger?
Sometimes. It depends on what your home already draws. We do a load check first. Then we’ll tell you whether the charger fits on your current service or whether a panel upgrade is the better move.

Are you really local?
Yes. We’re based in Catonsville, so local service calls are quick for us.
